It doesn't get any closer than this: Andy Hobbs and Rush Fisher from Wilmington Rowing Club beat Chuck Windeknecht and Marc Daeman from Baltimore Rowing Club by 0.01 seconds in the Mens Master Double, C category. Riverside Boat Club's Igor Belakovskiy leads Undine's Craig Dodson by 0.32 seconds in the Mens Intermediate Light Single.

Independence Day Regatta schedule

81 clubs, 243 races, 870 boats, more than 2,000 athletes, including 500 masters.

• This is the fourth edition. Only changes after this will be minor. Check your lane assignment at the regatta HQ tent at the Canoe CLub before launching.

• The mens light 1x has been redrawn.
• Three clubs from South America will participate in the regatta. Club de Regatas and Mater Purissima from Lima, Peru, and Rudern Verein Teutonia from Argentina. A big thanks to WinTech, official boat supplier for the South American teams.
• Progressions for events with 7 boats (4 in heat 1, 3 in heat 2) will be top 3 from heat 1, top 2 from heat 2, and fastest last place time.
• Weigh-ins will be held at the Canoe Club each day. No weigh-ins at Boathouse Row. 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday and 6:30 to 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

• Volunteers - We need more volunteers. If you have a few hours between races, come to the regatta HQ tent at the Canoe Club and offer your services.
  • Motorboat drivers - We pay $5 an hour, minimum half day shift, with free lunch for people working all day. Contact Dona File.
  • Stakeboat holders - We pay $5 an hour, minimum half day shift, with free lunch for people working all day. Contact Anne Miller.
  • Other positions - Administrative, finish tower, dockmasters, starters assistants, go-fers. We need 'em all. Contact Clete Graham.

• Registration - There is no registration, but you are welcome to check in with us at the regatta HQ tent at the Canoe Club.

• Mens and womens open singles - we've added petite finals.
• Womens intermediate double has 24 boats, so will have heats starting at 8:48 am Saturday, semifinals at 12:48 Saturday, and finals at 4:36 pm Saturday.
• Novice singles and parent/child races are 1000 meters.
• Octuple race will be age handicapped. You must notify me if you change your line-up, with names and dates of birth.
• Mother/son 2x has 3 boats and mother/daughter 2x has 3 boats, so they've been combined into a 6 boat mother/child race.

• The safest and fairest way to run 243 races in July heat is to keep the regatta on schedule. We will be ruthless in starting races on time and will not hold races for any reason. Races will not be delayed for crews that are late to the line for any reason. Crews should be in their lanes and, for 2000 meter races, locked onto the stake boat two minutes before the start of their race.
• Bow numbers - It's the only way we can tell who you are as you cross the finish line. Each crew must supply its own bow numbers. Bow numbers will not be provided; however, bow numbers will be available for sale at the Regatta Headquarters tent at the Canoe Club, $12 for a set of 6.
