Mens and Womens Singles

Mens and womens singles - We'll try a different format this year, following on the popularity of the Top Ten races. For this year's Schuylkill Navy Regatta (and not for the Independence Day Regatta), we'll run just two events: mens singles and womens singles. Everyone will get at least two races, three for most competitors. Depending on the number of entries (see "Progression Schemes" below), competitors will advance to semis and finals, so that by the end of the day, regardless of your conventional classification, you are racing competitors of similar speed. Last year, we had 37 entries in mens singles and 17 entries in womens singles (combined count of intermediate, light intermediate, lightweight, senior and open divisions).

Seeded heats based on Top Ten rankings, coaches’ rankings (each coach ranks his athletes) and seeding committee (to seed out-of-town athletes) with reps from local clubs.
Schuylkill Navy medals will be awarded to top intermediate, light intermediate, lightweight, senior and open in each event. For that reason, on Regatta Central athletes must be entered into their respective classification category, with the understanding that all will be combined into a single race, one for men and one for women.

Progression Schemes

18 or fewer – 3 heats, top 4 to A/B semi finals, remainder to C final. A/B semis: Top 3 to A final, next 3 to B final.
19 – 24 – 4 heats, top 3 to A/B semis, remainder to C/D semis. A/B semis: Top 3 to A final, next 3 to B final. C/D semis: Top 3 to C final, remainder to D final.
25 – 36 – 6 heats, top 2 to A/B semis, next 2 to C/D semis, next 2 to E/F semis. A/B semis: Top 3 to A final, next 3 to B final. C/D semis: Top 3 to C final, next 3 to D final. E/F semis: Top 3 to E final, next 3 to F final.
More than 37 – 9 heats, top 2 to A/B/C semis, next 2 to D/E/F semis. A/B/C semis: Top 2 to A final, next 2 to B final, last 2 to C final. D/E/F semis: Top 2 to D final, next 2 to E final, last 2 to F final. Top 36 get 3 races.

Schedule

Friday, Heats starting at 6:00 pm.
Saturday, semis start at 9:00 am
Finals start around 11:30 am.
