Better news: We'll have a team point trophy for the first time this year. The Schuylkill Navy has donated the Bennie, a bust of the great man, to be awarded to the team amassing the greatest number of points in the regatta. The point tally will be available at the Regatta HQ test at the Canoe Club and at the finish tower during finals. It will also be posted on-line along with race results.
Highland Park crew is coming from Dallas, Texas, but they need to borrow boats. They are entered in:
Boys J16 Quad
Girls Pair w/o
Boys J18 Single
Boys J16 Single
Girls J18 Single
Boys J16 Double - 2 boats
Girls J18 Double
Girls J16 Double
Boys Single Dash
Girls Single Dash
If each club could lend one boat to this visiting team, all their athletes will be able to compete. Please tell regatta director John Hogan which events you can lend a boat for.
Dash races - The dash races are the end of the program and are set up so the crews can stay on the water after their 2000m race. Just rest a little, paddle back to the top of the island and race as hard as you can for 1/4 mile. Finalists in the BJ1x get to row heats, semis, a final, then a dash! What fun!!!
And finally - here is the first edition of the regatta schedule. Be sure to check back later this week and again on Saturday morning to confirm your race time. Regatta schedule.
The regatta will NOT be delayed to accommodate doubling or hot-seating. In the heat, it's just not fair to the other competitors.
The regatta is open to juniors only. A junior is a competitor who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 19, or who is and has been continuously enrolled in secondary school as a full time student seeking a diploma. A competitor thus ceases to be a Junior after December 31 of the year of his or her 18th birthday, or of the year in which he or she completes the 12th grade of secondary school, having been a full time student, whichever is later.
A junior 16 is a competitor who will not attain the age of 17 in the current calendar year.
All events except the dash races are 2000 meters. Dash races are 1/4 mile. The order of events is fixed and will not be changed. Heats, if required, will be run before the first final in the same order as the finals. The regatta start time is 9:00 a.m.
There will be a mandatory coaches and coxswains meeting at the Canoe Club at 8:00 a.m.
If necessary, there will be a break in the program after the girl's quad race to permit rowers in the quads to participate in the dash races.
No entry fee for the eights dash race is required if the crew entered the 2000 meter eight race.
