Marathon for Breaking Barriers

PURPOSE: On July 19, 1998 Dwayne Adams was an innocent victim of a shooting, shot in the left eye. The bullet traveled across his face and is logged in the right side. He has partial sight in the right eye and no sense of smell but since then has become a world champion rower (bronze metal, adaptive championships, Seville, Spain), a certified massage therapist, a certified personal trainer, and just recently a Level II rowing coach - the first partially sighted African-American to take and pass this test.

Dwayne writes: I have found a new quest for life. Along with my blessing and all of my new accomplishments, I started a non-profit organization called Breaking Barriers. I am working with the youth of Philadelphia, Wilmington, Delaware, and Camden, New Jersey and our mission is to introduce them to the sport of rowing & personal training. With these new challenges this should keep them off the streets and keep them in school.

On Saturday, July 19, ten years to the day from his injury, Dwayne will row a marathon on the Schuylkill River. We invite the rowing community to participate and support Dwayne. This is your opportunity to get involved.
