- The safest and fairest way to run 267 races in July heat is to keep the regatta on schedule. We will be ruthless in starting races on time and will not hold races for any reason. Races will not be delayed for crews that are late to the line for any reason. Crews should be in their lanes and, for 2000 meter races, locked onto the stake boat two minutes before the start of their race.
- Bow numbers - It's the only way we can tell who you are as you cross the finish line. Each crew must supply its own bow numbers. Bow numbers will not be provided; however, bow numbers will be available for sale at the Regatta Headquarters tent at the Canoe Club, $12 for a set of 6.
- Be sure to sample some of the Wawa Welcome America celebrations this weekend. Lots of free activities for the family.
And here are the schedules and other reports:
We have crews from Australia and England coming to the Independence Day Regatta:
- From Australia, Seymour College, a girls high school from Adelaide, South Australia, is sending a girls eight which will race the junior and intermediate eight events as the South Australia Rowing Association. Agnes Irwin School is providing equipment, with the assistance of the Philadelphia Girls Rowing Club.
- Sydney Sussex Boat Club, the student rowing club at Sidney Sussex College, part of the University of Cambridge, is sending a team of 28 rowers, 50% men, 50% women, and entering 8 or 10 different events. Pennsylvania Barge, Crescent, Bachelors, University, Vesper and College are all helping with storage of rented boats and locker room facilities. A big thank you to all those clubs for their help.
- The mayor's office has given the two teams 36 free tickets to the Goo Goo Dolls and Roots concert and fireworks display on the Parkway in front of the Art Museum on 4th of July evening.
